General
Argon is the most abundant member in the rare gas family, which
consists of other members, such as Helium, Neon, Krypton and Xenon.
Argon is colourless, odourless, tasteless and non-toxic. It is slightly
soluble in water.
Argon has been increasingly used in many applications, especially
in metallurgical processes. It is blown into furnaces to stir the
molten metal and for flushing other gases from the melt, mainly
in the production of stainless steel. It is also widely used as
a shielding atmosphere in welding, metal fabrication, aluminium
processing, microelectronics, glass coating and advanced ceramics.
Properties
Completely inert.
